Cherryville, the First Outpost
Nestled in the foothills of British Columbia’s beautiful Monashee Mountains, Cherryville is a peaceful rural community where mountain vistas, forests, rivers, and abundant wildlife become part of everyday life. With an official population of just over 600 residents, the surrounding rural area is home to many more families than the census suggests, creating a close-knit community where neighbours know one another and life moves at a more refreshing pace. While there are only two general stores in the village, the area offers something far richer—clean mountain air, pure water from wells, springs, and creeks, quiet nights beneath star-filled skies, open spaces, and a lifestyle deeply connected to God’s creation.
Cherryville has long been known for its spirit of self-reliance and community. Gardening, small-scale farming, ranching, beekeeping, forestry, and even recreational gold panning remain part of the local culture. Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy countless opportunities for hiking, fishing, canoeing, mountain biking, and exploring the many nearby lakes, rivers, and wilderness areas. It is a place where children still have room to roam, families can cultivate the land, and the distractions of modern city life give way to a simpler, more intentional way of living.
Although wonderfully rural, Cherryville is far from isolated. The friendly village of Lumby is only about 20 minutes away for groceries, schools, restaurants, and everyday services. The regional hub of Vernon is approximately 45 minutes away, offering major shopping centres, healthcare services, and a wide range of businesses. Kelowna, with its international airport, Costco, major retailers, and virtually every service or amenity you could need, is only about 1 hour and 20 minutes away. This unique balance allows us to enjoy the blessings of country living while remaining within easy reach of the resources needed for ministry, family life, and outreach.
